Considering that most people pronounce the word Laundry-mat the correct spelling is actually tricky because we don’t generally ask: where is the nearest LaundrOhmat? It is commonly misspelled laundrimat or laundrymat because that seems like the more logical spelling. Even voice recognition search engines and text recognition will recognize the mispronunciation laundry mat.

Where did the word even come from? Many believe it was because early eateries that had self-serve vending machines were referred to at automats. When self-serve laundries began to gain popularity the words laundry and automat merged, giving us term laundromat.
